Description
The Upper Haukadalsá is known as a good sea-run char river with the possibility of salmon. It is naturally cold, due to the high elevation of the catchment, which is also why it is difficult for salmon to thrive here. The Upper-Haukadalsá falls into Haukadalsvatn from its uppermost source by Jörfamúli, but on the way various streams flow into the river and make it the waterfall it is. The upper part of the river runs through a canyon, but further downstream the river is calmer and suitable for sea-run char/Arctic char. The lower part of the river, especially the estuary, is best for char fishing but the chances for salmon are mainly in the upper part.

Angling lodge
The fishing cabin Snasagil stands in the land of Leikskálar (see map). The house is small and comfortable with a sleeping space for up to 8 people. Anglers need to provide their own bedding or sleeping bags. Duvets and pillows are provided, as well as basic cooking utensils. People should bring their own hygiene products and toilet paper. They are asked to clean the gas grill before departure and remove all rubbish. It is possible to buy cleaning at the end of the stay and information about that can be found in the house. There is an electric tub by the house and certain cleaning rules apply which are displayed in the house.

Directions
From Highway 1 in Norðurárdal take a turn onto the road to Brattabrekka and on the way to Búðardalur. Turn to the right before driving over River Haukadalsá and follow this road along Lake Haukadalsvatn and you will soon see the fishing lodge to you right further in the valley.
The fishing area is about 11 km with 34 marked fishing spots, from Lake Haukadalsvatn to Hlaupagljúfur.
