The fishing area of river Hofsá is about 25 km, and the main catch is a sea run char, although occasional sea trout and salmon are also caught. The river flows into river Western-Jökulsá but has its source from the glacier Hofsjökull and from lakes and streams around that area. This is a rather big river, and it is sometimes glacial but into it runs the River Fossá, which comes from Hofsjökull. Above the junction of Fossá, Hofsá is always clear over a length of 5 to 6 km and is then called Runukvísl up to waterfall Runufoss. The fishing has been extremely volatile through the years, some years almost nothing has been caught but other years there has been excellent fishing. Often the best fishing is in the autumn. One day in October, over 100 char were caught on the three rods and two salmon.
