What can be fished

Description

River Djúpá is in Þingeyjarsýsla, not far away from Akureyri. In Djúpá there are large brown trout that migrate from Lake Ljósavatn in late summer or autumn. Fish of 5-6lb are not unusual and larger fish have been seen. Only fly fishing is allowed and all fish must be released. There are also resident char, small brown trout, and occasional salmon in the river, but to a very limited extent. Djúpá has crystal-clear water, and it is necessary to go carefully at fishing spots. Mostly, these are pools lying under grass banks; deep pools where a lot of fish can be lying. There is good fishing on streamers and often the fish are willing to take nymphs and dry flies. The fish like black and Nobblers and the fly Sirða have given good results . Also, black nymphs and dry flies, as well as some wet flies like Teal & Black. The trout section is now included in the salmon permits.
