What can be fished

Description

Hörgsá flows for three km on flat land and through a gorge with the same name. There are many great fishing spots. Sea trout are the main catch and fish over 20 pounds have been caught, and also salmon and char. The area is famous for its natural beauty. In the first part of the summer, occasional salmon and char are caught and there are a lot of resident trout. It is possible to drive along the river to the mouth of Hörgsárgljúfur and after that is a rather difficult walk. Hörgsá is a typical rain fed river with a large catchment. Anglers should be aware of the danger from river levels rising rapidly in the rain. The lower area of Hörgsá is characterized by gravel and grass banks until the river flows into Breiðabalakvisl.
