Mjóavatn

Lake Mjóavatn is in Hróarstunga close to the towns of Lindarhóll and Brekka. It is 90 m above sea level and is estimated to be 0.18 km2 in area. Mjóavatn is in the land of Kirkjubær and Lindarhóll and mainly contains brown trout but also some char. The char in the lake can be quite big; 3 – 5-pound fish have been caught in nets. The brown trout are smaller, at most about 2 pounds. Angling is not much practiced in Mjóavatn, though it is fished in the spring before the vegetation in the lake regrows. Most of the fishing is on spinners and bait, but there are people who have managed to use a fly. From Mjóavatn a stream flows into Brekkulækur that falls to lake Búðarvatn, which is close by. There is no fishing in Búðarvatn, which is much larger than Mjóavatn.
