River Hólaá runs from Lake Laugarvatn, over to Lake Apavatn and from there to river Brúará. It is a very good char and trout river, where char dominates in the summer, but the trout are usually strong in spring and autumn. The fishing in the river is often fantastically good and it is not uncommon for experienced anglers to hook between 20-30 char in one day. The best time is from the beginning of June to the end of August. The best way to catch the char is to fish upstream with small nymphs. A lot of food comes from Lake Laugarvatn and anglers need to find nymphs that most closely resemble the food that the char is eating at any time. The fishing season depends on the weather, but it is usually possible to start fishing in April or May and fish until October.
