River Húseyjarkvísl flows into the western branch of Héraðsvötn, 19 km from the sea. The source of the river is in the highlands south of Mælifellshnjúkur. It meanders through the plains of Skagafjörður and is fishable for salmon up to the waterfall Reykjafoss. In addition to salmon, 3 – 400 sea trout are also caught there each year. Very large sea trout are caught each summer on the salmon beat, up to 90 cm, and that’s a good addition to the salmon fishing in the springtime. Two to three days are sold at a time, from noon to noon. The average catch in the last 10 years has been 185 salmon.
