Description

Laxá in Aðaldalur is not only a good salmon river, but also holds one of the strongest brown trout populations in the country. Every year, several thousand trout are caught in Laxá below the power station and the catch for the best beats is between 400-800 trout per summer. The average size is between 1 – 1.5 kg and considerable numbers of trout in the range of 2 – 3 kg. There is a great dry fly fishing at these beats in the right weather, but nymph fishing with strike indicators is still the most common method. A lot of anglers also choose to use streamers. It is ideal for large and small groups to book a few days in Aðaldalur and try out these wonderful beats, where it is possible to move from one beat to another, over a period of several days.

Presthvammur is a beat at the east bank of Laxá in Aðaldalur, below the power station. It is about 2 km in length, a fun beat with great wildlife and environment.

Fishing rules

All salmon must be released, but two trout may be taken per half day shift A boat is not currently in the area, but work is underway to improve it. It should be noted that there can often be considerable weed floating in the river, especially in late summer and then rocks become slippery and visibility in the water is poor. There is reason to ask hunters to be careful in such situations.

Directions

The fishing area extends from the fence below the lower Ferjubreið and up to the Rörið (Tube). The area has 6 marked fishing spots and several unmarked
