What can be fished

Description

The fishing area Tunga – Bár is a short distance east of Selfoss. Sea trout are the main species, and they arrive in the area soon after they are seen in the estuary. A few salmon are also usually caught each summer. Fly fishing is growing in this area, as elsewhere in the stream, at the expense of the worm, which often gives a good catch. There is no fishing cabin in the area.

Fishing rules

It is permitted to take 3 fish per rod/each day, but all fish over 65 cm must be released. All sea trout must be released after October 10th. The two rods in the river are always sold together.

Fishing book: Can be found by the bridge near Hæringsstaðir and another is in a mailbox by the gate to the angling house in Baugstaðaós. Anglers are obliged to register all catches.

Directions

The fishing area is about 11 km long and extends from the old bridge at Bár, just east of the town Selfoss, and to the bridge by the fishing house in Tunga, which is just east of the village Stokkseyri
