Lake Urriðavatn is in the vicinity of Egilsstaðir and is approx. 1.1 km², deepest 15 m and 40 m above sea level. The creeks Hafralónslækur and Merkilækur flow into Urriðavatn, but Urriðavatnslækur flows from it. It is allowed to fish in the whole lake, but it is best fished in Hafralækjarós and by the outlet of Urriðavatnslækur. The lake only contains Arctic char, which range in weight from a few hundred grams up to 3 pounds. Most char are around one pound. The best fishing time is first in the spring, just after the ice melts and it seems that best fishing is done in still conditions.
