Salmon

Description

Brynjudalsá is a small, but productive river in Hvalfjörður that runs to the sea in Brynjudalsvogur. It has two waterfalls, Bárðarfoss and Kliffoss, where high numbers of salmon accumulate under certain circumstances. When that happens, the anglers need to approach the river with prudence, for good results. There is often a lot of excitement below the waterfalls, especially Bárðarfoss early in the season. Later in the summer, the salmon spreads throughout the area and then Kliffoss and fishing spots below it can be very productive. The average catch over the last 5 years has been 225 salmon.

Accommodation & Facilities

Angling lodge

In the summer of 2015, a new dignified fishing lodge was built on the riverbank by Brynjudalsá. It is located by the upper waterfall, with a great view over Hvalfjörður. In the lodge there are two bedrooms and good facilities.

Directions

From Reykjvík, drive Highway 1 towards Hvalfjarðargöng. Just before the tunnel, turn right into the valley of Hvalfjörður and across the bridge over river Laxá in Kjós. Keep on driving until you come to Brynjudalur.

The fishing area is about 11 km and there are 22 marked fishing spots. The upstream limit is Tóftarhylur and the downstream limit is the waterfall Bárðarfoss.
