Salmon

Description

River Krossá in Bitrufjörður is about 250 km from Reykjavík, between Staðarskáli and Hólmavík. The river is sustainable and in the dry season it has very little water so it is often possible to see the salmon. It is easy to have a detrimental effect on the stock and therefore only two salmon per rod a day are allowed. Also, anglers have been asked to release all the big salmon that is important for the sustainability of the river. NO licenses are for sale until 2024, due to conservation measures

Angling lodge

A good fishing house is by the river; an iron-clad wooden house with a sleeping space for 9 people in two sleeping lofts and two rooms with upper and lower bunk beds. In the house there are main kitchen utensils, cooking hobs, a freezer, gas-grill and a bathroom with a shower. A good terrace is alongside the house. A map and a logbook are available in the house.

Directions

From Reykjavík, take highway 1 to Staðarskáli N1. Turn left on road nr. 68 and drive out the west side of Hrútafjörður. When in Bitrufjörður, drive to the bottom of the valley and again out of it to a sign on the left marked Krossárdalur, road 641. The fishing cabin is about 5 km from road 68.

The fishing area is about 8 km in length with 24 marked fishing spots
