Laxá á Ásum

River Laxá á Ásum is without a doubt one of the best salmon rivers in Iceland. In recent decades only two rods have been fished on the Laxá, but despite that the average catch of the river is about 1,000 salmon in the summer or about 500 salmon per rod. In winter 2016 the Laxárvatn Power Plant was shut down, and with that the fishing area of the river lengthened by 7 km and is now a total of 15 km. The river was restored to its original state, as it was before the power station was built in the 1940s. With those changes the number of rods in the river were increased to four. The river is fished two – three days at a time.

Laxá á Ásum is a very varied salmon river, with a wide variety of fishing spots. A part of the river´s catchment is Fremri Laxá (the Upper Laxá) and the estuary of Laxá. Fremri Laxá is sold separately all season, but the estuary is included with the main area from the opening until the 8th of July. After that time, it is sold separately.
