Salmon

Description

Svalbarðsá is 37 km in length and falls into Þistilfjörður in eastern Iceland, east of Melrakkaslétta. Several salmon rivers flow through Þistilfjörður and the biggest are Svalbarðsá, Sandá, Hölkná and Hafralónsá. They are quite big rivers with fast currents. Svalbarðsá is truly the place of the big salmon and 70% of the salmon caught are classified ‘big’. The river is fished for 2-3 days at a time. For the last 9 years the average catch has been about 310 salmon.

Accommodation & Facilities

Angling lodge

An elegant fishing house was built in 2006. It’s 110 m2 with four rooms, which all have a shower and a toilet. Duvets and pillows are in the house, but anglers must bring sheets and all hygiene products. A good gas grill is by the house. Anglers may arrive at the house one hour before the fishing starts and need to leave no later than one hour after the fishing on the day of departure.

Directions: After driving east over the bridge on River Svalbarðsá there is an offroad to the right, and a sign that shows the location of the fishing house.
