Description
River Sandá is in northeastern Iceland. The river is known for big salmon, as can be said about most salmon rivers in Þistilfjörður; and many 20 lb salmon have been caught through the years. The biggest recorded salmon in Sandá was 28 lb. However, the river is quite challenging, both for new and experienced anglers. Sandá holds good water levels, and it is very rare that anglers experience a shortage of water. The fishing area is complex, ranging from impressive gorges with high rock walls and fast currents, down to beautiful runs. There are also deep pools, like the Fossbrot by the waterfall in Sandá. That is the most productive spot in the river together with Bjarnadalshylur, which has given most of the big salmon in Sandá over the years.
Accommodation & Facilities
Angling lodge
Sandá is well suited for groups of friends and families. It comes with a spacious and very well-equipped fishing lodge with four double bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. There is a good terrace by the house with a gas grill and storage for waders. Toilet paper is in the house and hygiene products. If people prefer, it is possible to buy a cleaning service for the lodge. In the house there is an oven, TV, and basic tableware for a minimum of 8 people. The keys of the house are in a special key-safe that opens with a code. It is possible to drive to the lodge in all types of cars.
Directions: Turn to an off road to the farm Flaga, from there it is about 3 km to the fishing house/lodge, on the left side.
Fishing rules
Fishing arrangements: The river is fished with four rods from 09.07 – 14.08, but 3 rods from 24.06-09.07 and 14.08 – 19.09
Attention is drawn to the fact that fishing is only done by a C&R arrangement

The fishing area is about 14 km, extends from Ósabreiða and up to the waterfall Sandárfoss. Totally there are 35 marked fishing spots
