Description

Héðinsfjarðará has for a long time been an extremely popular char river, and stories have often been told of the river being full of char. Before the tunnel Héðinsfjarðargöng was constructed it was not easy to get to the river. People either went by boat from Siglufjörður or walked over Hólsskarð, which is about a three-hour walk. The char starts to migrate in late June into Lake Héðinsfjarðarvatn, but most of the migration is in July. This is a good char river and fish can easily reach up to 5 lbs. Before char migrate into the river there can be good fishing from the beach in front of Lake Héðinsfjarðarvatn.
