Salmon fishing this summer has surpassed expectations in multiple rivers, with some rivers reporting a threefold increase in catches compared to last year. Many rivers have already yielded double catches, and overall, everything indicates that this summer will be the best since 2018.
Undoubtedly, the rivers that have shown the most significant increase compared to the current situation are Laxá in Dölum, Hrútafjarðará, Andakílsá, Mýrarkvísl, and many others. The river Laxá in Dölum currently has over a thousand salmon, which is three times more than the catch at the same time last year. The river Hrútafjarðará had less than a hundred salmon at the start of September last year, but now it is quickly nearing three hundred salmon. A similar situation is happening in river Andakílsá. It had 120 salmon at this time last year, but now it has matched last summer’s total with 347 salmon. River Mýrarkvísl is having its best year in a long time, with almost three hundred salmon caught, compared to 150 fish at the same time last year. River Jökla, at around 950, has surpassed her previous best catch of 815 salmon, which was caught in the summer of 2015. The fishing in river Stóra-Laxá has increased by over one hundred percent between years. Currently, there are 500 salmon, whereas at the same time last year, there were 211.
Still! There have been disappointing results in some rivers. For example, the river East Rangá has seen a significant decrease in fishing compared to last year, with 1400 salmon caught this year compared to 1700 last year. The rivers Blanda and Svartá are causing significant concern. River Blanda’s catch is not promising, being twenty percent lower than last year’s already poor catch. River Svartá is also not meeting the usual expectations, and the fishing in the river Affall has been poor this summer.
