The first week of spring fishing has concluded, and it can be said that it has started well. The weather has been exceptionally good nationwide, with only a few exceptions in the initial days. Anglers are mainly targeting sea trout at this time, with some also fishing for local brown trout and Arctic char. Here is an update from various popular fishing spots that opened on April 1st.
Fishing in the river Geirlandsá, which is under the supervision of Fish Partner, has been very successful. On the first day, 64 fish were caught using four rods. At Kárastaðir on Lake Þingvallavatn, two nice fish were caught on the first day. More fish has been caught there in recent days, and the same can be said for Villingavatnsárós.

The anglers who opened the sea trout fishing area in the West-Rangá River had a successful fishing trip. They discovered fish throughout the lower area, and the fish were evenly distributed. A total of six fish were caught, five magnificent sea trout and one Arctic char. The largest one measured 78 cm. It will be exciting to see how the fishing unfolds in the West-Rangá River in the upcoming days.
During the first few days of the spring season, there has been successful fishing in the river Hólaá at the Útey area. Nearly 100 fish have been caught, mostly brown trout, with a few Arctic char also being landed. As summer progresses, more char become dominant, while brown trout are strong in the spring and fall.
Seventeen fish were caught on the first day in the river Leirvogsá, and fishing has been good ever since. These fish were caught using four rods. In northeast Iceland, at the Presthvammur beat on the Laxá River, there was excellent fishing during the evening shift on April 1st, with 53 fish caught. The following day, one of the largest brown trout ever caught at the Presthvammur beat was landed. It was the angler Baldur Guðmundsson that caught the fish on a Squirmy. It turned out to be 75 cm and can be said to be a “Prize fish”.

Fantastic opening days were had on the Litlaá River. Many large, healthy fish were caught, with some measuring over 70 cm. The group caught a total of 153 fish over three and a half days and returned home very happy.
Near Akureyri, on the Eyjafjarðará River, a few guides from Vopnafjörður were fishing during the first few days. On April 1st, approximately 30 sea trout were caught. The weather was uneventful on the morning of the second day, causing a delayed start to the fishing. Fish were abundant, particularly at beat one, which is unusual for early April. In recent years, spring fishing for sea trout has become the most popular period in the Eyjafjarðará River.
