Lake fishing

Fishing began in several lakes in April and early May. Here is a summary of the main ones:

Fishing in Lake Vífilsstaðavatn began slowly, but by April 6, most of the ice had melted, prompting many anglers to try their luck in various spots around the lake. On April 24th, the angler Árni K. Skúlason fished at the lake and successfully caught an unusually large char using a Killer nymph.

Lake Elliðavatn was opened on the “first day of summer,” April 24th. Many anglers visited the lake and received expert advice from the owners of the Fishing Card and Elliðavatn’s Fishing Association. The weather was great with calm conditions and a temperature of eight degrees. A fantastic program was available; such as a course on the environment and fishing, fishing lessons, and refreshments. Unfortunately, there isn’t much news about the fishing activity on this first day.

Some people have visited Lake Meðalfellsvatn and caught a few trout. There are reports of salmon being caught in the lake, but they are kelts. Currently, fishing with a spinner is a popular method.

Recently, many fish have been caught in Lake Hlíðarvatn, and some anglers have had great success with their fishing. Anglers fishing at the lake in early May had an exciting adventure when char eagerly bit one of their homemade flies. She is a replica of a top fly nymph. By using it as bait with a long leader, they managed to catch 28 char.
