Summary of the spring fishing

Sea trout fishing in the stream Tungulækur this April set a new record compared to previous years, with over 700 sea trout caught. And there’s still the whole autumn ahead! Fishing at Tungulækur is almost matching last year’s record of 779 sea trout. With only 3 rods available, the catch rate is exceptional at 7.8 fish per rod per day. The average daily catch is 23.5 fish.

There has been good spring fishing in river Laxá in Kjós. During the last weekend of April, the brothers Tómas Ari and Ármann were fishing in the river and caught 12 fish. Most of the fish were found in Efri Mosabriða, Kríueyri, Óseyri, and Káranesfljóti.

Fishing in the river Litlaá was successful despite the unpredictable weather. In April, Swedish anglers, for instance, persevered through the weather and had a good catch. In the first 22 days, approximately 250 fish were caught, which is significantly higher than the same period last year.

So far, about 115 sea trout have been registered in the river Eyjafjarðará, with the largest one measuring 82 cm. Only 6 char have been caught. Fishing was challenging due to weather and snow conditions, but many people still managed to catch fish successfully. Stefán Sigurðsson, the owner of Iceland Outfitters, was fishing in the river, in mid-April, with his son and friends. They caught a total of 50-60 fish using 4 rods.
