There has been a slight increase in migrations, such as in Laxá in Leirársveit. Still, fishing has been slow so far, with sea trout being the main catch. It will be exciting to see if the next few days will bring better salmon fishing there.
There has been an increase in migration to the Elliðaár River in Reykjavík, with just over a hundred salmon passing through the fish counter there. However, the salmon have not been caught in high numbers by anglers for some reasons.
Anglers have the option to catch freshwater fish besides salmon, and brown trout fishing has been exceptional. Arctic char, migrating from the sea, will soon be entering many rivers, but unfortunately their populations have been significantly declining in many areas. Many people choose to visit lakes and engage in fishing activities in the highlands.
