One salmon fishing river after another is now being opened. The salmon fishing season is starting similarly to how it was in the summer of 2024. The fishing area of Urriðafoss in Þjórsá was the first to open, and around 200 salmon have been caught there.
The river Norðurá had a good start, with 30 salmon caught in the first 2 and a half days. This is quite acceptable, especially considering the very cold weather during the initial days, with the water temperature dropping to just 1.8°C one morning.
Just like last season, it took some time for anglers in the river Blanda to catch the first salmon. Finally, Reynir B, the fishing partner of Árni Baldursson, the owner of Lax-á Angling Club, caught the first salmon. A short time later, Árni also caught a salmon.
At the fishing spot Brennan, where the rivers Þverá and Hvítá meet, two salmon were caught on the opening days. Ten salmon were caught in the river Þverá on the first day, with six caught in the morning and four in the evening shift. Most of them were nice two-sea winter salmon. Salmon have also been spotted in the rivers Haukadalsá and Elliðaár, which will open on June 20th.
