Aravatn is in Skefilsstaðahreppur in Skagafjarðarsýsla. It is 1.9 km² in area and at 130 m above sea level. The river Nesá flows from it into Efra-Nesvatn, and from there further into Hörtnárvatn. Nesá has fish and it can pay to walk along it. Aravatn is shallow and contains a lot of fish, both Arctic char and brown trout. The char are rather small, generally about 300 gr. The trout, on the other hand, can be big. There is almost no road connection to Aravatn. It is seven km from the main road and possible to get most of the way in a modified jeep.
