River Djúpá is in Þingeyjarsýsla and runs from Lake Ljósavatn to Skjálfandafljót. The real salmon beat in Djúpá reaches from the dam by the old power station and down to the salmon ladder lower in the river, just above the junction. For a while, landowners used their fishing rights themselves, but now they sell permits and the river has regular gueasts, although fishing is not practiced every day from morning to evening. There are 60 – 100 salmon caught each summer and Djúpá has a salmon stock of some bigger ones. The trout beat, from the Power station to Lake Ljósavatn, is now included with the salmon beat. There are many beautiful fishing spots and really nice fish, five to six lbs are common. The trout area is described in another article here on the web.
