Lake Eskihlíðarvatn is in Landmannaafrétti, north of the lakes Lifrarfjallsvatn and Dómadalsvatn. It is 1.53 km² in area, deepest about 27 m and at 530 m above sea level. The natural beauty of the lake is great and not least the road through Dómadalur. There are both brown trout and Arctic char in the lake and there were good char’s here before, but now the reality is different. Good rearing conditions for char have meant that the brown trout have gradually declined, and the lake is now overcrowded/or overfed with small char. Net fishing has been tried but has not yielded the intended results.
