Description

Fögruhlíðarós, which is mainly the estuary of Fögruhlíðará, is an enjoyable area to fish for sea-run char and there is often a special atmosphere when fishing during the night. Some sea trout have been caught and salmon have been seen there recently. There is brown trout fishing from Fögruhlíðará up to Réttarhyl. Ideal for small groups that want good sea-run char fishing and to have a chance of brown trout, sea trout and salmon too. People have experienced unforgettable moments at Fögruhlíðarós.

Accommodation & Facilities

Angling lodge

There is no compulsory accommodation for this area, but an ideal place to stay in Jökulsárhlíð is the residential building at Breiðumörk. There are facilities for 4-6 people in three double rooms. There is a large living room with a TV, one bathroom and a drying room. Free Wi-Fi internet is available on site. Anglers also have the option to stay in the fishing lodge Hálsakot in Jökulsárhlíð, with or without food, if rooms are available.

Fishing rules

There is no catch and release obligation for trout but anglers are encouraged to release larger char. The quota is 2 salmon per rod/per day, and it is compulsory to release all salmon of 70 cm or larger.

Fishing area: Fögruhlíðarós and Fögruhlíðará up to Réttarhylur. The upper area of Jökla III comes with sold fishing permits.
