Lake Frostastaðavatn is the largest of the so-called Framvötn, south of Tungnaá and has long been the most popular fishing lake in the area. It lies at about 570 m above sea level and is 2.5 km². The surroundings of Frostastaðavatn are extremely beautiful and are mainly characterized by lava that surrounds it from most directions. The lake has mainly Arctic char, a huge amount, but also brown trout. The trout stock has deteriorated significantly in recent years. However, it is not universal that there is only small char in the lake, because in between anglers hook into good fish. All permissible bait can be fished, and nets have also been licensed to help with “gauzing”. The most popular fishing spots are north of the car park and out of Frostastaðahraun, where it is possible to get nice char.To the east of the lake, it is popular to fish from the car park and into the bottom, to the south. Here, as elsewhere in Framvötn, anglers are asked not to release any char, netting is needed as in other char lakes in Framvötn.
