Description

Hraun is the northernmost farm in a settlement on Skagaheiði and is close to highway 745. Residents there own the fishing rights and sell fishing licenses in five lakes closest to the farm. The lakes are as follows; Hraunsvatn, Djúpavatn, Kolluvatn, Neðstavatn and Steinatjörn. They also sell licenses in Ölvesvatn, Aravatn, Kelduvíkurvatn, Nesvatn and Hörtnárvatn. Only the former, which are closest to Hraun, will be discussed here, but the others are well introduced elsewhere on the web.

All these lakes have both Arctic char and brown trout. A common size is one pound, but some fish can weigh up to two to three pounds. Since the lakes are all rather shallow, they tend to be turbid in the wind and then become unfishable. Anglers are allowed fish all five lakes.

Accommodation & Facilities

Fishing cabin

Accommodation is available in small cabins, both by Kolluvatn and in Skammagil, which is between Kolluvatn and Kelduvíkurvatn. The house by Kolluvatn has bunk beds for four and a sofa bed for two additional guests. In the one in Skammagil there are bunk beds for 5 people. Both cabins have tableware and kitchen utensils, gas hobs for cooking and a gas grill.

For those who stay in the cabins, a day costs 7000 ISK per person and a fishing permit is included in that price.
