Description

The farm Hraun is located west of Ölfusárós in the municipality of Ölfus. The land of “Hraunstorfan”, of which Hraun is a part, is about 2400 ha if the farm’s territorial integrity is included. The land of the farm is mostly lava, sand and moorland, and arable land is limited. Angling has long been practiced at Hraun. The fishing is often adventurously good in the area; both sea trout and char can be caught. The best opportunity for fishing is just before the inflow and during the tide. It is often better to start at the bottom of the estuary and move upwards when the tide gets higher. The fish, which are usually found in the estuary feeding on sand-eels, follow the tide up the river and then go back down to the sea when it falls again.

Fishing rules

Important: Everyone who drives to the river must take care and watch for floods. The tidal water can go up to the riverbanks and there will be no way out if cars are not moved in time.

Directions

The main fishing spots are in the estuaries of Ölfusár, both above and below the bridge, see map

Parking 1. At the end of the bridge, south of the road, there is a car park and if fishing is carried out in the estuary, four-wheel drive cars can drive a trail south of the road to the river and the estuary. Care should be taken to drive on trails and not on green-land

Parking 2. North of the road, about 300 m west of the bridge fence, is another parking lot. Cars are best parked there while the river is fished just above the bridge.

Parking 3. Fishing further upstream, about 1 km west of the bridge, it is possible to drive down to the river on a trail that runs from Eyrarbakkavegur. It is also possible to drive cars down to the bank and get close to the river.

Parking 4. The upper area is slightly further up the river and there is parking by the road. There one needs to walk down to the river, approx. 100 m. It is also possible to drive 4×4 cars down to the river if a road is followed that is to the west and leads down to the sand banks. Follow them (but only when it is low tide) south, along the banks of the river.
