Description
Hraunsfjörður is an exceptionally enjoyable fishing area. The area is vast and full of fish: Arctic char, sea trout and salmon. Fishing is very good in July and August, but anglers have also enjoyed good spring fishing in April and May, especially for sea-run char. The fish mainly eat flies in the spring, but in late summer char move to the innermost part of the lake and are often found where the inlet streams join the lake, especially on hot days. Fishing is evenly distributed over the summer, but there is undeniably more likelihood of catching salmon and sea trout in August.

Camping
Hraunsfjörður offers good facilities for tents and motorhomes (caravans). There is a path/track on the west side of the lake, which reaches to the bottom of the fjord, where the campsite is.
Fishing rules
Anglers and outdoor enthusiasts are kindly requested to be tidy in the area and not to leave rubbish behind. Off-road driving is not permitted. It is not permitted to drive the track that runs from the deserted farm into the valley. All fishing by boat is prohibited. There is no quota for fishing, but anglers are asked to take fish in moderation The rod price given here on the site is a full fee for the Fishing Card. It is possible to acquire the card for a reduced amount, for example through a union.
Directions
Drive past Borgarnes and turn into Mýrar. Then turn up Vatnaleið, by Vegamót, towards Stykkishólmur. After crossing the heath, turn left towards Grundarfjörður and then left again after about 4 km at a sign pointing to the fishing area. The fishing area is the entire lagoon within the dam at Hraunsfjörður. Fishing below the dam and in the dam outlet is strictly prohibited.
