The rivers Hvolsá and Staðarhólsá flow into one estuary to the sea by Saurbær in Dalasýsla. Hvolsá is 9 km in length from where Svínadalsá and Brekkudalsá merge. Staðarhólsá is fishable 7.5 km to a waterfall near Kjarlaksvöllur. To the north of the estuary there is a dam/defense wall that forms a reservoir that remains when it’s low tide, but seawater flows into both rivers. The rivers are better known as sea-run char rivers and the best years have seen over thousand chars caught.
