What can be fished

The rivers Hvolsá and Staðarhólsá flow into one estuary to the sea by Saurbær in Dalasýsla. Hvolsá is 9 km in length from where Svínadalsá and Brekkudalsá merge. Staðarhólsá is fishable 7.5 km to a waterfall near Kjarlaksvöllur. To the north of the estuary there is a dam/defense wall that forms a reservoir that remains when it’s low tide, but seawater flows into both rivers. The rivers are better known as sea-run char rivers and the best years have seen over thousand chars caught.

Accommodation & Facilities

Angling lodge

The fishing cabin, Ársel, which is located by the highway close to Hvolsá, offers good facilities. It has four double bedrooms and two single ones, a good dining room and a lounge/living room with TV and good chairs. There are duvets and pillows in the house, but anglers should bring bed linen. People are allowed to arrive at the cabin at 15:00 (14:00 after 10.08) on the first day of fishing and should leave the house, after cleaning it, no later than 13:30 on departure day. It’s possible to pay for cleaning of the lodge at least 24 hours before departure. If cleaning is requested, then the house must be emptied no later than 12:30 on the day of departure. No pets are allowed in the house or by the river!

The fishing area is the whole Hvolsá and Staðarhólsá, together with the lagoon
