What can be fished

Description

These lakes belong to Hvítársíða in Mýrarsýsla. Lake Kleppavatn is 0.76 km² in area, very deep and at 398 m above sea level. Lake Fiskivatn is a little further north and is in the Kleppavatn cathcment. It is 0.73 km² in area, shallow and at 395 m above sea level. Both brown trout and Arctic char are in the lakes. The average size is 1-2 pounds, but up to four to five pounds char have been caught in Kleppavatn. The route to these lakes is shorter than to other lakes in the heath. However, modified Jeeps need to be used and it is recommended that people walk the last distance. The lakes are not far from Húsafell, so it is ideal for families staying there to take advantage of the fishing opportunities.

Fishing rules

When the road opens to the lakes varies from year to year, although it is usually in early June. As the summer progresses, it is preferable to walk to the lakes on foot.

Directions

A permit holder is allowed to fish in both lakes Take the old national route along a jeep trail west over Norðlingafljót to Fiskivatn and then there is a jeep trail between the lakes.
