What can be fished

Description

The Kolgrímsvötn lakes are located on the southeast side of Aðalbólsheiði in Vestur-Húnavatnssýsla and are all at about 550 m above sea level. There are three lakes with fishing rights managed by Veiðifélag Víðidalstunguheiðar. The area of the lakes ranges from 0.11 up to 0.40 km². There has been considerable net fishing in the lakes which has helped to maintain the size of the char, but most are about one to two pounds. The lakes are shallow and for a long time were not considered suitable for fishing, but this view has now been disproved. The road to the lakes is a slow drive, but it is best to take a 45 km long jeep road up from Víðidalur and it is a three-hour rough drive in modified cars.
