Description

Lake Langisjór is a large lake southwest of Vatnajökull. It is 27 km², 20 km long and 2 km wide where it is widest. The height above sea level is 662 m. To the east of Langasjór lies a mountain range called Fögrufjöll, from which many cliffs lead into the lake and into them the fjords and bays cut. There is good char fishing in Langasjór. There is a fishing cabin at the western end of the lake.

Directions

The main fishing spots are by the fishing cabin at the southern end of the lake and along the lake to the north, with Breiðbakur. Good fishing can be at the northern end of Langasjór. To get there, it’s best to drive to Breiðbakur north of Langasjór. From there it’s possible to walk to “Útfallið” where it falls from Langasjór into Skaftá. At Útfallið there can be good fishing, but there is a long walk, and not possible to get there by car. When driving to Langasjó, take route F208, which can be accessed from Landmannalaugar or Skaftártunga. Turn onto F235 approximately 3 km above Eldgjá. F235 usually opens at the turn of the months June / July. It is possible to follow the opening of mountain roads on Vegagerðin’s information website; ad link!
