Laxá at Refasveit is a natural paradise just north of Blönduós. The river flows through the valley Laxárdal, which is grassy and green. The river gets its source deep into Laxárdalur, where it is called Kattartungur. The main tributary of Laxá is River Norðurá, but they merge close to the highway near Skrapatungurétt. Below the highway are high banks along the river and it flows through a large canyon, to the sea in Laxárvík. When the river became popular, a fish ladder was installed in the river gorge, a large structure. This created a larger area for both the salmon and the anglers. A path and a ladder lead down into the gorge. Anglers come down between Gljúfrabúi and Kista which are good fishing spots. The river is fished two days at a time, from noon to noon.
