What can be fished

Laxá in Aðaldalur is not only a good salmon river, but also holds one of the strongest brown trout populations in the country. Every year, several thousand trout are caught in Laxá below the power station and the catch for the best beats is between 400-800 trout per summer. The average size is between 1 – 1.5 kg and considerable numbers of trout in the range of 2 – 3 kg. There is a great dry fly fishing at these beats in the right weather, but nymph fishing with strike indicators is still the most common method. A lot of anglers also choose to use streamers. It is ideal for large and small groups to book a few days in Aðaldalur and try out these wonderful beats, where it is possible to move from one beat to another, over a period of several days.

Hraun is an enclosed trout area in Laxá in Aðaldalur, east of the river opposite Staðartorfa, Múlatorfa and Syðra-Fjall. Very diverse, with great nature and perfect for dry-fly fishing when the weather allows.
