Lake Löðmundarvatn is just east of Landmannahellir and gets a shelter from the mountain Löðmundur which towers over it to the north. It is about 0.90 km² in area and at 590 m above sea level. Löðmundarvatn is rather shallow and the streams Helliskvísl and Blautaver flow from it. The lake contains almost exclusively Arctic char, often rather small but has been growing in recent years due to netting operations. It is possible to drive to it from the west, almost all the way to Löðmundur.
