Description

River Miðfjarðará is considered to be extremely beautiful and many call it the queen of salmon rivers. It is one of the best and one of the most expensive salmon fishing rivers in the country. Most of the salmon caught in Miðjarðará are 5 – 9 lbs but salmon up to 20 lbs are caught every summer. In 2015 there was an absolute record catch of 6028 salmon. The river boasts a very good average catch, about 3585 salmon the last 10 years. River Miðfjarðará is always fished for 2 -3 days at a time, from noon to noon.

Angling lodge

There is a magnificent fishing lodge near the river; Laxahvammur which is linked to the fishing. It has absolutely everything that anglers need. Guides can be booked if required, and this is recommended when fishing this large river for the first time.

The fishing area spans Miðfjarðará, Vesturá, Austurá og Núpsá. Over 200 fishing spots on an 85 km area.
