What can be fished

Description

All salmon that are on their way to the spawning grounds in River Norðurá passes the Flóðatangi area and therefore is a good chance of catching salmon there. This fishing area also has resident brown trout and Arctic char. Fishing licenses have been of good value at Flóðatangi and are still so. There are a few ancient fishing pools like Kastalahylur, Hlöðutúns- kvísl og Ármót, but many other good ones. The area is well marked and it is important to respect boundaries.

In 2020 an alteration was made to the sale of fishing licenses. The Union Efling took over the lease of Flóðatangi together with Einar Sigfússon for the angling club of Norðurá. Licenses are sold in the Service Center at Svignaskarð, Borgarfjörður.

Fishing rules

People wishing to fish at Flóðatangi should go to the Service center to pick up life jackets. There anglers have access to a “fishing indicator” that gives further information about the area. At the end of the fishing day, anglers must return the life jackets and register the catch of the day in the logbook. It is important that anglers use life jackets while fishing.

It is permitted to take two grilse on each rod daily. All salmon over 70 cm must be released. There is no quota for trout

Directions

If driving from the south (Reykjavík area), on Highway 1, turn right by the gas station Baula to road nr. 50. All tracks are marked with big signs and down by the river there are smaller signs at each fishing spot.
