Description

Oddstaðavötn is the collective name for 6 lakes on the northwestern side of Melrakkaslétta. They are all located north of the main road in the land of Oddstaðir, although the farm is deserted. The lakes are Vellankötluvatn, Skeljalón, Örfaratjörn, Fremravatn, Suðurvatn and Langatjörn. They include, apart from Fremravatn and Löngutjörn, both local Arctic char and sea- run char; a considerable number of beautiful 2–3-pound fish, although most are smaller. Skeljalón and Vellankötluvatn are connected via the so-called Mjósund and therefore it looks as if they are one and the same lake.
