Many salmon pass through the River Ölfusá on their way to their home river. A large number swim into the Sogið and the stock of Hvítá is also large, as it includes all the fish that are migrating into the many tributaries that flow into Hvítá. The salmon caught in Ölfusá, within the town limits of Selfoss, are for the most part or entirely migrating fish and the main fishing season is rather short – from the end of June until the beginning of August. Fishing in Ölfusá on the beats of the Angling Club of Selfoss takes place on the land of two farms, Fossnes and Hellar. The average catch per year is about 230 salmon in the last 10 years.
