Refsveina is a rather small but beautiful river that runs through several reservoirs on its way to Norðlingarfljót, including Stóralón. All the way there is the prospect of good fishing, especially where the river runs into reservoirs but also in the river itself.
Stóralón is rather shallow and can all be waded. It is 0.06 km² long with one small island. It is especially popular to fish with a fly and the reservoir holds good fish both char and brown trout. Refsveina falls from Stóralón further into a small lake and then to River Norðlingarfljót. This is truly a dream area for the fly-fisherman, which opens in the spring, when the road to Arnarvatnsheiði is passable, and closes late September.
