Description
Lake Skjálftavatn is one of the largest lakes in the country, about 9 km² in area and lies at about m above sea level. This is shallow lake, only about 2 ~ 3 m a . The water was formed during earthquakes in 1975-6. In 1975 there were earthquakes in Kelduhverfi and landslides where they had just recovered. Then this historic lake was formed. From the lake, river Litlaá flows into the sea in Öxarfjörður. There is a lot of good fishing in Skjálftavatn; brown trout, sea trout and Arctic char. Among, good fishing spots are the springs at the so-called Jonnatún by Tjarnaleitisrétt.

Keldunes t. +354 2275, but there are good facilities for up to 12 people. The house has 6 double rooms with made beds, a cozy dining room with very good cooking facilities and also a lounge. There is a hot tub by the house where people can relax.
Fishing rules
Anglers must report to Keldunes before fishing begins. At the end of the fishing day, the catch must be recorded in a fishing book that is in Keldunes. Skjálftavatn is under the jurisdiction of fishing rights holders who live by the river. Five rods are allowed in Litluá and two in Skjálftavatn. If all the five rods in the river are purchased, a license in the lake is included.

Schedule
12 hrs. per day but anglers are allowed to move on time during the second day shift. It is permitted to fish until nightfall.
