What can be fished

Description

Sogið is a spring fed river and is one of the largest rivers in Iceland. It runs out of Lake Þingvallavatn and merges with Hvítá in Árnessýsla 20 km downstream, southeast of Ingólfsfjall. Ásgarður is an ancient fishing beat in Sogið, known for big salmon and huge Arctic char. The beat is ideal for fly fishing with many good fishing spots.

Accommodation & Facilities

Fishing cabin

The fishing cabin at Ásgarður is not included in the price of fishing permits

However, people can rent the cabin by Ásgarður, if it is available. It has room for up to 8 people and is on the riverbank with a nice view over the river. There is also a sauna and an outdoor shower, which is enjoyable for relaxing after a day of fishing. There are four bedrooms in the cabin, three with two single beds and one with a double bed. There are five toilets in the house, two showers and good cooking facilities. On the outdoor terrace there is a good gas grill.

Fishing rules

Three rods are permitted at this section and are sold together in a package from noon – noon.

Directions

Driving the highway from the capital, turn left to Biskupstungnabraut (35) just before driving into Selfoss. After crossing the bridge at Þrastarlundur, a left turn is soon taken on to Þingvallaveg (36). Drive approx. 3.5 km until you see rubbish bins on the left. At the containers, take an off-road to the left into the holiday home area. After that, take another turn to the right and drive that path until you reach the fishing cabin.

Note: Anglers need to call and get a number from the Lax-á office to open the gate on site, t. +354 531-6100

The fishing area extends from the fishing boundaries by Ásgarður and Syðri Brú, down to the bay below the old fishing cabin
