What can be fished

Description

River Straumfjarðará is a well known salmon river and is both productive and fun to fish. The river gets its source from the mountains in the north side of Snæfellsnes, mainly from the lake Baulárvallavatn and the sources of Köldukvíslar in Kerlingarskarð. Also, many small streams and rivers fall into Straumfjarðará. In the lower part of the river, the tributaries Fáskrúð, Grímsá and Laxá in Miklaholtshreppi flow into it.

The river is best suited to fishing with single handed rods and floating lines. Still, it can be good to use short double handed- or Switch rods at some fishing pools.

Accommodation & Facilities

Angling lodge

The Fishing Lodge at Straumfjarðará is located in the area of Dalur and there is a track to it from the highway via Vatnaleið. The lodge was built in 2005 and fits extremely well into the magnificent surroundings by the river. In the house are 5 double rooms, each with a private bathroom  and there is a cozy lounge with a fireplace. A full service is in the lodge the whole season. There is a sauna by the lodge, where it’s enjoyable to relax after a good day of fishing. There is also a storage for waders, with a cleaning table and salmon cooler.
