Research is being carried out on the fish populations in order to increase them, Anglers are asked to be careful and to follow fishing rules in all respects. It is requested that all fish are measured (length) and the number of the Floy (Spaghetti tag) that may be found by the dorsal fin is registered into a logbook. Anglers are asked to show consideration to the farmers and not to drive through gates or make a trail on a field, unless it is shown on a map that there is a car park.
The river is divided into three fishing beats:
The lowest beat is fished with two rods, which extends from the waterfall Reykjafoss to the north and south to the bridge below Starrastaðir, where a gravel road replaces the asphalt.
The second beat is above the bridge by Starrastaðir and to the bridge by Sölvanes, south of the valley. There it is fished on one rod.
The third beat is above the bridge by Sölvanes south to Ýrarfellsfoss, a considerable distance from the farm Gilhagi.
