What can be fished

Description

The fishing beat Kárastaðir are north of Þingvallavatn, close to the estuaries of Öxará, and there is the main spawning station for trout in the lake. In spring the brown trout hover around the area in groups and the fishing can be adventurous if you meet one of these. There is a magnificent lava field, with ravines and lava edges, which many consider the most beautiful fishing area of Þingvallavatn. The fish are very large, even over 20 pounds. The average size is about 4 kg. The Kárastaða beat is partly within the national park, fishing permits sold separately and therefore the Fishing Card is not valid there. There are many good fishing spots by Kárastaðaland and a reason to mention Rauðukusuness which has given many brown trout.
