It is safe to say that Veiðivötn is one of the most famous and productive fishing lakes in the country. This is a water- cluster in Landmannaafrétti which consists of up to 50 lakes. These are both small and large lakes that are about 570 ~ 590 meters above sea level. Most people consider Veiðivötn and the fishing lake area one of the most beautiful in the country. The largest lakes are Litlisjór, Grænavatn, Ónýtavatn and Snjóölduvatn. Litlisjór is by far the largest or about 9.2 km², Grænavatn 3.3 km² and Snjóölduvatn 1.6 km². These lakes are not crater lakes but were formed before 1480.
In Veiðivötn there are a lot of very big and powerful brown trout from the ice age stock, i.e., a sea trout that became landlocked at the end of the last ice age. There is also a lot of Arctic char, both small and large. As this is one of the most popular fishing areas in the country, fishing licenses usually sell out in a short time.
