The first salmon of the season was caught yesterday in the fishing spot Skuggi, where the river Grímsá flows into river Hvíta. This is unexpected, as it is the same spot where the first salmon was caught last year, almost at the same time, by the same angler. Mikael Marinó Rivera caught an 86 cm long salmon. The well-fed fish, caught with an anonymous fly, prompted Mikael to suggest naming the fly “Iris” after his Co-teacher.
The 2025 salmon season has officially started. Salmon were spotted last weekend in river Jökla and yesterday in river Laxá in Kjós, but fishing there will not begin until June 24th and 25th.
